Dalynn produces a beautiful ode to growing up in “i hate this place”. The bedroom indie track features a ukulele that complements Dalynn’s voice and makes for an angelic atmosphere – the type of song you needed those nights lying on the floor in highschool thinking about all that was going wrong and how little was going right. “I hate this place, I’ve outgrown these walls, planning my escape, because my world’s too small. And I just can’t wait till I graduate.” This song is delicate and vulnerable, making it relatable to those who share the same fears and excitement about growing up. Dalynn is only seventeen years old and a brilliant writer who can bring to life the feelings kids feel as they grow into adults and wrestle with the inevitable feelings of entrapment, heartbreak, and freedom that come with it.
Dalynn finishes the song with a more positive outlook on the place she grew up and what it has meant for her “I love all my friends and I wrote this for them, cus I miss this place and I love these walls. Cus’ the world’s so big and I feel so small.” Here she really means what she wrote at the beginning of the song, “this isn’t perfect, but at least I’m not alone, it isn’t much but hey at least it feels like home”, accepting that nothing lasts forever but it is okay to want it to – and the things we dislike we sometimes grow to love.
